Former Safaricom CEO heads up tourism board

Former Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Joseph has been appointed the Chairman of Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).
Announcing his appointment Friday, Tourism Minister Najib Balala said he will serve for a three-year term beginning the first of this month.

Joseph was last month succeeded by Bob Collymore after being at the helm of Safaricom for ten years.
According to a report from the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, former KTB chairman Grieves-Cook has served as the KTB Chairman for two consecutive terms since his first appointment in November 30, 2004
Under the chairmanship of Mr. Jake Greives-Cook, KTB managed to put up aggressive marketing campaigns targeting domestic and international tourists.

In addition, the organization partnered with international travel and leisure organizations as well as the media and airlines to build a strong image for Kenya as a niche tourist destination.
The board is credited for diversification of the tourism market by put up additional market presence in India, China, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, Poland and Turkey.
