Vodacom SA launches smartphones for the visually impaired

Must Read

Vodacom today announced the launch of the latest range of speaking phones aimed at bringing the benefits of mobile communications to the visually impaired.

The Nokia E52 and N86 provide the benefits of smartphones but are also pre-loaded with text-to-speech software, which converts text-based information displayed on a cellphone screen to speech, enabling users to listen to their text messages, contacts, battery strength and signal strength. These features ensure that users are able to stay in touch with loved ones through accessible mobile communication.

According to Shameel Joosub, Managing Director, Vodacom SA:

“Mobile communications are an essential part of modern life and we’re thrilled to be able to supply a new range of speaking phones to those visually impaired people that might otherwise be excluded. The Nokia E52 and N86 have the ability to make a real difference in the lives of our visually impaired customers by ensuring that they are able to use a cellphone independently.”
