Bharti Airtel executives jet into Kenya

TOP officials from Asia’s leading telecommunications corporation Bharti Airtel arrived in Kenya to meet with local Zain staff.

Led by the CEO Sunil Mittal, the team is expected to hold talks with Kenya’s President Mwai Kibaki after meeting with staff to assure them of the security of their jobs despite the sale of the company


Bharti Airtel acquired Zain’s African assets for US$10.7billion, a deal which will see 15 African countries, Kenya included, re-brand its operations within this year.

Reports indicate that Airtel had assured its Kenyan staff that none of them would lose their jobs but the company would ship in Indian professionals to fill in some key posts.

Other reports indicated that Jayant Khosla, formerly of Essar may take over African operations from Chris Gabriel.

The position of Zain-Kenya CEO currently held by Rene Meza will not be affected.
