The National Lottery Regulatory Commission, NLRC has come out strongly against mobile operators who send unsolicited text messages to subscribers.
According to The Vanguard, The Director-General, Mr. Peter Igho said, “The National Lottery Regulatory Commission has noted with dismay the spate of perennial and unregistered SMS lotteries embarked upon by telecom operators. This lottery is in the form of SMS whereby customers are asked to text to win millions of naira.”
He noted that the operations of telecom companies were causing serious concerns to the public because their actions amounted to invasion of privacy..
He also pointed out that Nigerian subscribers had been subjected to abuse by their service providers, receiving multiple SMS’s at odd hours of the day. Mr. Igho promised that to clamp down on telecom operators who continue to harass their subscribers.
