TOP officials from Asia’s leading telecommunications corporation Bharti Airtel are expected in Malawi this week to hold discussions in furtherance of their business interests with Zain Malawi management.

Bharti Airtel sealed a US$10.7billion acquisition deal of Zain Africa operations last Wednesday, which will see 15 African countries, Malawi inclusive re-branding during the year.

Confirming the development, Zain Malawi Public Relations Manager Edith Tsilizani said the Airtel delegation will jet in the country on June 23, 2010.

“Yes, they are coming. They are expected to be in Malawi on June 23, 2010,” said Tsilizani.

She, however, could not give details regarding the purpose of the delegation’s visit to the country.

“There will be a press conference in Lilongwe next week and you will ask all the questions you want to ask. You will get the information then,” she said.

Bharti Airtel is one of Asia’s leading integrated telecom services providers with operations in 18 countries across Asia and Africa.

Zain previously trading as Celtel started operations in Malawi in 1999.
