“His departure should serve as a gradual shift from the imperialist role played by MTN in our country and the continent.
“Nhleko’s leadership style and persona is a personification of the accumulation path that was advanced by the 1996 class project to appease domestic power brokers and monopolize industry”, said Matankana Mothapo, spokesperson for CWU.
The CWU spokesperson accused the former MTN boss of leaving after his “aborted mission” to sell MTN on a “silver platter” to the hands of foreign capital.
The CWU also noted that the effects and impacts of the high cost of mobile calls were being felt by the working class and the poor of our country.
“Hence, the Ministry of Communications was forced to mandate ICASA to intervene on the high cost of mobile tariffs”, added Mothapo.
However, CWU wished Nhleko well in his future endeavors.
