Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has launched a free “call me back” service for its business customers, where its Bussie or Business Partna subscribers without airtime can send call me back requests to friends or family members.
“A person with no money whatsoever can approach a payphone operator, give them the number of a relative, and the operator will send them a free message, asking them to call back the person who needs to make contact”, said Econet spokesman, Ranga Mberi, cited by Zim’s publication, The Herald.
The service has already been in place for Econet’s Libertie subscribers in Zimbabwe and Econet Wireless South Africa users.
The new service allows subscribers to send a free message to any relative or friend on the Econet network, asking to be called back.
“When the call comes through, the people can talk for as long as they like. The operator receives a commission from Econet and, therefore, does not charge anything for the service”, added Mberi.
The company said it would continue to install its payphone network in rural areas to extend the service to these high-potential territories.
Econet Wireless is Zimbabwe’s largest mobile service provider, with a subscriber base of over 3 million.
