MTN files ammended agreement with ICASA (Update)

MTN South Africa announced it has finalized separate amended interconnection agreements with Vodacom and Cell C regarding the implementation of the Mobile Termination Rate (MTR) decrease.

The rate will drop from the current R1.25 to 89c per minute.

“The agreements will be lodged with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) pending the secured signatures. This voluntary industry reduction will be implemented on 1 March 2010”, says Robert Madzonga, acting chief corporate services officer at MTN South Africa.

Previously, MTN revealed in a statement that it would implement the decrease on 1 March 2010.

Robert Madzonga, acting chief corporate services officer at MTN South Africa, revealed at the time that the operator was in bilateral negotiations with both Vodacom and Cell C and is planning to lodge the final amendments with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).
