South African distribution house Workgroup was chosen as the official distributor of the Wyse Technology range of solutions. The deal will support Wyse in driving incremental business in the South African and African markets and will assist Workgroup in extending its reach into various vertical markets, including Government.
“Many organisations view client virtualisation and thin computing as a means to reduce IT expenditure whilst making their businesses more flexible,” says Doug Woolley, MD of Workgroup, adding that the company will strongly benefit from Wyse Tevhology’s hardware and software solutions to tap into a growing market need by Government workers to access centrally-hosted applications over network connections.
Thin computing allows for shifting computing from the desktop or client to the host server, which is accessible over a network, making it more secure and easier to access business application, while reducing support, maintenance requirements, costs and energy. A typical Wyse client uses as little as 1/10th the energy of a PC when in use, reducing carbon emissions, a green initiative embraced by most ICT companies nowadays.
Products that will be available through Workgroup include the Wyse range of desktop thin clients, laptops form-factor mobile thin clients for campus and field use, virtualization software that addresses previous limitations of thin client solutions including multimedia playback, Adobe Flash support, plug and play peripherals, and bi-directional high quality audio and management software enabling enterprise-wide client management removing the need for desktop support visits.
Wyse Technology is the global leader in thin computing-based virtualization software and hardware solutions. Wyse and its strategic partners, including Citrix, CSC, IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft, Novell, VMware and others deliver services that optimize the benefits of cloud computing, virtualization and green IT. Wyse was founded in 1981, and is headquartered in San Jose, California, USA.
