Following the recent launch of Internet Solutions’ (IS) International Wi-Fi Roaming Solution, the company announced today that over 3000 HotSpot sites have been added to its international footprint, through a partnership with the Trustive Network.
IS initially launched the service with access in South America and India via it’s partners Vex and Tata Indicom Wi-Fi. “The latest additions to this service will allow South Africans travelling abroad to have cheaper access to Wi-Fi broadband connectivity in both Europe and certain parts of Asia,” says Justin Spratt, HotSpot Business Unit Manager at IS.
These HotSpots include locations such as major business centres, airports, leading hotels and various retail locations, including cafes and restaurants in Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
“The international roaming solution allows current IS HotSpot customers and other travellers to roam our extensive international partner Wi-Fi HotSpot networks by either using their IS contract login details, or purchasing prepaid airtime before departing the country or while overseas,” says Spratt. Bundles can be purchased from various IS, reseller and partner locations countrywide or directly from the IS and AlwaysOn websites. The bundles are also valid and usable locally.
Various per minute and hourly HotSpot bundles are available, with rates ranging between R1.29 to R1.50 per minute, with hourly rates starting from R90 per hour, as opposed to current international rates that can cost in excess of R100 per MB. All IS customers who have PLuGG accounts, the company’s consumer broadband product, will also be able to use the International Roaming Solution with their PLuGG login info.
In the next international Wi-Fi rollout phase IS will be offering access to HotSpot locations in the United States and China.
