Nigeria, Uganda to dominate AfricaCom Awards

Must Read

africacom.gifNIGERIAN and Ugandan mobile, telecommunications and internet service providers are set to dominate the forthcoming AfricaCom Awards to be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, set for November 18.

Out of Africa’s four traditional economic giants comprising the host nation South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Egypt, Uganda were the surprise nation and the sponsors of the awards could not ignore their commitment and achievements in making Africa a better place in the communication industry.

Several handset and communication service providers such as Motorola, Ericsson and a few others on the continent doing business in the same category, have made an impact in the awards to be presented at the Grand Ballroom, Convention Centre, on November 18.

The Uganda cellphone, telecommunication and internet service providers comprising Warid Telecom Uganda Ltd (best network quality Initiative of The Year), MTN Uganda (rural telephone project) and ZAIN will be honoured.

Not to be outdone are Nigeria’s top telecommunications, cellular mobile, internet and handset providers such as StarComms (handsets for CDMA), MTN Nigeria (rural telephone project- best solution for rural services), FT Orange and ZAIN.

South Africa, Africa’s most advanced economy, will see its top mobile companies such as Vodacom, First National Bank (for the use of SMS at the Call Centre), Safaricom Ltd, Ericsson, Cell C and MTN, among the winners.

Another surprise package, and little-known African nation in terms of science and technology, Guinea, will have one of its companies, Safaricom, making its presence felt at the awards.

  1. Another surprise package, and little-known African nation in terms of science and technology, Guinea, will have one of its companies, Safaricom, making its presence felt at the awards.

Comments: Safaricom does not operate in Guinea( West Africa i.e. Guinea-Conakry)but in Kenya( East-Africa). Please correct this huge mistake.
