The Uganda government has taken its ICT programme a step further, it has announced the establishment of a statewide Web portal to consolidate the individual websites of various government institutions.
IDG reported that the portal, which was commissioned by the Ministry of ICT, will also incorporate the government ministries, departments and agencies that do not maintain websites at this time.
Uganda’s acting commissioner of IT, Ambrose Ruyooka, told the media that the portal will be the main source of information on government activities.
“It will be a gateway to all government institutions, a one-stop center for all government information,” he said.
In the spirit of promoting e-governance all the government sites will be linked.
Ruyooka added that they will be seeking public opinion soon on the matter as the developer has already submitted a draft for the portal.
A team drawn from the ministry and the Uganda Media Centre will provide and manage content for the portal.
