A Nigerian company, ‘Jobsearch Nigeria Limited’, an information and communication technology (ICT) firm with core interest in database technology, has developed a database website known as (www.jobsearchnigeria.com) which provides an ICT based human resources solution with a web resume database of skilled professional and fresh graduates among Nigerians and across the borders. Speaking to newsmen in Lagos during the week, at a ceremony to formally launch the website, the managing director of Jobsearch Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Abiodun Oso, noted that the website, which is the first of its kind in the country, was designed as a platform between jobseekers and recruiters, adding that it offers boundless opportunities in utilizing the internet to connect.
According to Oso, ” we have followed closely the conventional method of recruiting jobseekers i n Nigeria, a situation in which applicants’ Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) are sorted out manually. We believe the method is obsolete, expensive, mind bugling and time consuming considering the advancement in ICT in the 21st century”.
He explained that a situation where many applications sent by post in response to advertisements do not get to their destinations or get there later than intended, and where job- seekers spend lots of money, go to wrong places, exhaust their energy, abuse their bodies/health and in the process, become psychologically and emotionally troubled, is no longer in tune with the global trend where the internet highway provides a platform for cheaper and less combersome alternative.
He said the dynamics of the e-recruitment platform implied that skilled professional, fresh graduates and other categories of jobseekers using this service (having purchased a scratch card of N500=), post their resumes to the website (www,jobsearchnigeria.com), where they are warehoused for a period of one year in a unique search engine and made available free of charge (via an access code) to willing employers.
He pointed out that organisations recruit from this free e-recruitment platform through which they can select qualified candidates from various discipline and years of experience from the comfort of their offices.
According to the MD, “the technology behind our unique search engine is simple and downloads of candidates for pre-selection interview/test can be concluded in less than ten munites, and our website which is hosted by a UK-based web hosting company, is safe with a lot of fireworks that cannot be duplicated or tamperred with.
According to Oso, “all it takes is for a jobseeker to buy our scratch card at the cost of N500 containing 12 digits PIN numbers and post his/her CV to www.jobsearchnigeria.com database”, adding that this has one year validity with unlimited access during which they can update their CVs from time to time as the need arises. While the service is free to recruiters who are given an eight digits PIN number access code which allows them easy access to the database to pick likely and qaulified candidates.
Among the numerous benfits of the website to jobseekers, he said, include maximum exposure of their CVs, saves them from hazards of job searching, breaks geographical limitations, reduces cost of looking for jobs and providing a link to strong and potential companies. While employers enjoy its free service, ability to access thousands of CVs through a dynamic search engine which is time-saving, easy and comfortable as well as assist recruitment from any part of the country and even beyond.
The MD said that their target include N.Y.S.C members, other jobseekers(unemployed and those who want change of jobs), institutions of higher learning, politicians and different arms of government.
Oso, therefore, urged Nigerians to avail themselves of the opportunity being offered by this unique database website in the collective effort to reduce, if not erradicate unemployment and associated problems in the country, adding that they can do so by reaching out to any of their sales outfits including
Intercontinental Bank Plc, Wema Bank Plc, NIPOST Offices and Dealers Points to buy the scratch cards and link up to www.jobsearchnigeria.com for plum jobs.
The launch was flagged off with a motorized campaign involving over 200 marketers who drove along the street of Lagos to create awareness for the new product.
