IBM launches systems to manage data-intensive services

IBM has announced the launch of new POWER7 systems created for emerging industry business models, ranging from smart electrical grids to real-time analytics for financial markets.

The new systems contain industry-unique technologies for the latest demands of applications and services that translate into processing large amounts of concurrent transactions and real-time data analysis.

POWER7 allows users to manage applications at lower costs, due to its virtualization-based technology, cost-efficient use of memory and energy savings.

The system is capable of reading and analyzing millions of transactions in real time and sustain more than 85 million reads per day in a smart grid, compared to a traditional grid, where less than one million meter are read per day and billing statements require overnight batch processing.

IBM, one of the largest worldwide providers of software solutions, has developed the Power Systems range to assist the optimization of transaction processing speed for massive database workloads.
