Nokia to partner New Alliance in China
Nokia and the investment company New Alliance, part of the Shanghai Alliance Investment Ltd, are now partners in a mobile services joint venture in China. The initiative will secure further support and development in the world’s largest mobile and internet market, according to both parties.
“China is the world’s largest mobile and internet market. As Nokia is entering the services business in China, establishing this joint venture is a natural step to help us bring locally relevant mobile services to Chinese consumers, spoke Niklas Savander, Executive Vice President of Services for Nokia.
The joint venture, called Nokia Alliance Internet Services Company Limited, will act as a platform to distribute selected Nokia Ovi services in China and support local content developers in submitting their applications. The alliance will be effective from January 2010 and will involve around 80 people.
Nokia is the world’s leading maker of mobile devices, promoting advanced mobile technology with personalized services, comprehensive digital map information through NAVTEQ and equipment, solutions and services for communications networks through Nokia Siemens Networks.
Shanghai New Alliance is an affiliated company under Shanghai Alliance Investment Limited (SAIL) which focuses on long term growth projects with sustainability in the Telecom, media, technology, new energy, environmental, medical and pharmaceutical and modern services industries.
