As the release date for Rockstar’s open-world Western, Red Dead Redemption II, draws closer, Rockstar has only just dropped a more comprehensive look at what the actual gameplay will be like.
In this thrilling prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption, the story follows outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang during the late 1800’s, coming up on the end of the wild west era when the last of the country’s outlaw gangs were being hunted down.
“After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee,” Rockstar explained. “With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him … Red Dead Redemption II is an epic tale of life in America at the dawn of the modern age.”

The game is going to be huge according to Rockstar, saying that it is their biggest, most immersive and detailed game to date. It’s also Rockstar’s first game to be developed for current platforms.
There is a larger range of nuanced interactions with other characters, not simply a good or bad dynamic anymore, but a broader spectrum. Some of these interaction highlighted in the trailer include greet, antagonize, defuse, stop witness, threaten, dismiss, beat, and rob.
There is also the addition of camps as hubs where players can interact with other gang members, perform tasks and bond with their horse by brushing or feeding it. This is also where the gang can eat, sleep, and play games together. Maintaining the camp is where the player can get involved. This involves bringing back supplies or cash. Or the player could just not contribute altogether, but this means missing out on useful rewards.
“Helping the camp with food and supplies will keep morale high while spending time with other gang members can reveal new secrets, fun things to do, and opportunities for mischief,” says Rockstar in the trailer.
Red Dead Redemption II releases on October 26th, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
