Vodacom has promised to reimburse customers who lost data and airtime on Monday, 21 August 2017. Vodacom said the error would be rectified. The telecom company confirmed that it was also aware customers were unable to use purchased bundles and were getting depletion notifications. According to the company, this was due to a technical error. Vodacom did not supply a date of when the customers will receive their airtime and data refunds.
“Vodacom is committed to ensuring that all affected customers will be refunded in full. Thanks again for your patience.” the company tweeted.
“We are currently reimbursing customers affected by last night’s billing issue. All related out-of-bundle charges are being refunded and depleted bundles are reinstated. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” the network said on Twitter.
Vodacom is not the only telecoms company to encounter this kind of problem, this has promoted the competition the Competition Commission to launch an Inquiry. The commission published the terms of reference of the inquiry and called for submissions. The inquiry is expected to complete its work by August 31.
