Lycamobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), announced today that the company has partnered with Cell C and will begin rolling out its services in South Africa. With the South African development, Lycamobile has expanded its global network reach to 23 countries worldwide and the roll out marks the firm’s first launch in Sub-Saharan Africa.
South Africans, which form one of the largest telecommunications markets in Africa, will now have the opportunity to connect with friends and family through Lycamobile’s low-cost calling, texting and data services. The rollout also brings some much-needed competition to one of the most tightly contested markets in the country which is also an ever-growing sector of South Africa’s economy, with approximately 85 million unique cellular subscriptions.
