Although there has yet to be official confirmation from the telecommunications operator, Etisalat Nigeria is reportedly changing its name to 9Mobile, this is according to a report by Nigerian Communications Week.

Premium Times Nigeria reports that embattled Etisalat Nigeria had a crucial management meeting on Thursday which resulted in a decision to move away from the Etisalat brand, and 9Mobile was unanimously adopted by the company as its new brand name.

The decision to rebrand comes on the back of Etisalat Group’s decision to withdraw from its investment and ownership of Etisalat Nigeria, after the latter defaulted on loans amounting to $1.2 billion (N377.4 billion).
