Huawei unveiled its latest device, the P8 Smartphone, on the 2nd of July 2015, at the Johannesburg Country Club. According to the company, Johannesburg is the latest stop in a worldwide tour that has included stops in Bangkok, Singapore, New York and London.
At the event, newly appointed General Manager of Huawei Consumer Business Group SA, Charlene Munilall, who unveiled the device, said: “The goal of the Huawei P8 is to become the most user-friendly smart phone for consumers globally. Huawei seamlessly combines the best elements of style and durability in this device, delivering a revolutionary and premium user experience. The device symbolises our continuous commitment to provide customers with access to premium quality products.”
Weighing in at 144g, the P8 features a 5.2-inch full HD display with a 1080p resolution. Additionally, the device comes standard with Huawei’s Emotion UI 3.0 (EMUI) user interface. In terms of the operating system, Huawei has opted to run Android Lollipop on the P8 smartphone. Powering Android Lollipop will be the device’s Hisilicon Kirin 930, 8-core 64bit, 2.0GHz processor, which is accompanied by 3GB RAM.
When it comes to storage space, The P8 is available with either 16GB or 64GB of internal storage space, which can be supplemented with a microSD card up to 128GB. Huawei has also equipped the device with a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 8-megapixel front facing camera. Huawei has gone all out in terms of camera functionality as the device features a light painting mode, director mode, and a perfect selfie feature.
According to Huawei, the P8 smartphone will be available in South Africa from the end of July 2015 for around R7999.
