The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Eltel has revealed that it has inked a vital contract with Huawei Technologies. The contract includes an installation of approximately 1,600 kilometres of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on existing power transmission lines.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, and will be carried out on live line conditions in Ethiopia. The Project will cover areas located in Central, Southern, South Western and Western parts of Ethiopia.

According to the company, the new OPGW will enhance the utility’s internal communication capabilities, and it will also provide a high quality backbone for 3rd party users.

The project is a part of a larger National Grid Development and Improvement Project in Ethiopia. Eltel has tens of years of experience in delivering electrification projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia. The group is currently delivering several projects in Africa, for example in Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia.
