Vodafone Ghana has announced a new round of discounts for pilgrims making the journey to Mecca and Medina in the Middle East. The company hopes the discounts will enable more people to maintain contact with their loved ones while in Saudi Arabia.

Vodafone Ghana says it is offering a “73 percent discount on prepaid roaming charges for Hajj pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia this year.”CMO Uche Ofodile said the Vodafone Hajj offer “was currently the only such one in the country,” adding that the offer “has already been set up for all Vodafone prepaid customers and can be automatically accessed when they reach Saudi Arabia.”

The offer runs until the end of October.

A similar promotion was made available to pilgrims last year during the holy season for Muslims and was deemed a major success as many users continued to use their phones while away from Ghana.
