MTN Business App of the Year Awards drives growth for local developers

Now in its second year, the 2013 MTN Business App of the Year Awards not only recognises the best and brightest mobile developers in the country, but it also provides them with a platform to drive their business.

“Award ceremonies are often criticised as not delivering measurable benefits to winners. Yet, as several of the winners of last year can attest to, the MTN Business App of the Year Award has provided them with plenty of opportunities to profile their apps and increase revenues, including finding new channels to market,” says Nomalanga Nkosi, GM: Business at MTN SA.

According to Farren Roper, Head of ISP and Business Operations at FNB Mobile and Connect, winning the 2012 App of the Year Awards has inspired the team to strive even higher for success. “Since winning the overall award last year, we have had a great response to the FNB Banking App. With close to half a million active users already, it is growing by at least 40 000 users per month,” says Roper.

He says that the event has become the showcase of local talent in mobile app development and a well respected and recognised industry event.

“Winning the Most Innovative App category in last year’s Awards with the Plascon Inspire Me app has without a doubt increased our sales requests,” says Natalie Wooding, Project Manager of the Plascon Inspire Me App Development Team.
