Airtel Nigeria announces Nano SIM cards
In what telecom experts are saying could be a huge move for the mobile phone market in Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria has announced that it will introduce Nano SIM cards onto the market.
Nano SIM cards are used in the new Apple iPhone 5 device and means that it will give the company the lead on the new smartphone market in the country.
It also announced that any user who purchases the new iPhone 5 in the country will receive a free Nano SIM with their smartphone in an effort to boost the mobile market.
The current data plans for the iPhone will start at 200 MB and higher, and Airtel said that activation of the phone is free with the new purchase.
Nigerians are excited about the move, telling IT News Africa/Bikyamasr.com that they are ready to get the newest mobile at the cheaper rates.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) hopes that the move will also help create better customer service for Airtel. It comes as the NCC has pressured mobile operators to improve their services for subscribers in the country after it said it has seen an increase in users complaining about services in the country.
“The Nano Sim card 4FF has the basic functionality of a SIM card, but comes in a smaller size,” the company said in announcing the new SIM.
