The Sims Social overtakes Farmville

September 12, 2011 • Gadgets and Gaming

Zynga’s FarmVille has for long been the most-played game on Facebook, with millions of users flocking to the microsite on a daily basis. But it seems as though it has met its match in terms of daily active users.

Games maker Electronic Arts released The Sims Social a couple of weeks ago, and while the title is a web version of its multi-selling The Sims PC game, the latest version has overtaken FarmVille in daily active users on Facebook.

AppData has released statistics by tracking the users on each site, and revealed that EA’s title overtook Farmville, and has around 9.3-million daily active users. It’s still not the most played game though, as that honour goes to Zynga’s CityVille, which currently has just under 14-million DAU.

“What has made [The Sims Social] a success so far is the Playfish expertise… combined with the creative excellence of the core Sims team. Those teams work together exceptionally well,” said EA CFO Eric Brown.

In terms of monthly active users, The Sims Social has a bit more than 34-million users, while Farmville is still the favourite at 35.6-million monthly users.
