The EZ Connec N Wireless PCI Express Adapter

SMC Networks, a provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, has announced the launch of its new EZ Connec N Wireless PCI Express Adapter, the SMCWPCIeS-N.

The wireless PCI Express adapter provides the speed, coverage and security demanded by today’s wireless users. The SMCWPCIeS-N is Wi-Fi certified for full compliance with the IEEE 802.11b/g/n standards and is able to achieve wireless speeds of up to 150Mbps, enough to simultaneously stream video and audio, play online games, transfer large files, make VoIP calls and surf the Internet.

“The SMCWPCIeS-N is perfect for customers that have a mix of 802.11b and g devices as it offers full backward compatibility with these earlier wireless standards while also supporting 802.11n, the state of the art wireless standard that added 40 MHz channels to the physical layer (PHY) to reach wireless speeds up to 150Mbps.

“Support for 802.11n means this new PCI Express adapter more than doubles the speed of wireless networks relying on 802.11g devices, yet is about the same price. In cost-conscious times, this creates real value for our customers,” says Frank Emmerlich SMC European and African Marketing Manager.

The SMCWPCIeS-N supports the latest WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption standards, which prevents unauthorised access to wireless networks and ensure data is secure. Wireless security can also be set up easily using a Wi-Fi Protected Setu (WPS) utility.

Paul Luff, SMC Networks South Africa Country Manager believes the solution addresses a growing need for effective network infrastructure within the growing small-to-medium market segment.

“The wireless speed that the solution offers, its support of various wireless networking formats and security protocols, means that users have effective technology available. It has the capacity to handle multimedia applications and promises performance that will add significant value within the home or small office environment,” says Luff.
