MTN Business, has been awarded the contract (pending finalisation of specified conditions) to rollout the African network infrastructure footprint for Standard Bank of South Africa, which, under Stanbic has a presence in 17 countries across the continent.

According to Angela Gahagan, executive at MTN Business; the objective of this solution is to provide a world-class communications infrastructure that will give Standard Bank – one of the top four financial institutions locally – real time access to application and management systems. “As a result, a key element of the contract is to provide combined satellite and fiber optic networks, from countries to South Africa, while providing a world-class product suite to meet their valued customers needs.”

The MTN Business Solutions products range from access services like wireless, fibre, satellite and leased line, hosting services, SaaS to convergence and Fixed to Mobile solutions.

Implementing a network of this magnitude entails complex technical and infrastructure planning, as the successful provider needed to ensure maximum uptime and low latency that could guarantee data delivery back to South Africa – without interruption to business operations. “Certainly, it was evident from the start that due to MTN’s African presence and the rollout of all the current cable systems available, that the company would be able to meet our objectives and deliver a measurable and valuable business outcome for Standard Bank,” says Ken Holtshousen at Standard Bank South Africa.

“With the strategic intent and roadmap of MTN’s African footprint we are able to provide Standard Bank with a world class infrastructure,” says Gahagan. “The network design and rollout will ensure viable business continuity for Standard Bank and demonstrate both corporations’ vast capabilities across the continent. There is no doubt that providing this complex infrastructure was always going to be challenging, however, with clear objectives and collaboration between both parties we have agreed on a solution roadmap which will be beneficial to ensuring a smooth transition onto the infrastructure.”

Continues Gahagan; “MTN Business Solutions’ product suite and network across Africa will ensure that many more customers will be able to take advantage of this leading design and infrastructure in the most densely populated and most remote areas. We take pride in offering Standard Bank with the highest level of service as their preferred partner.”
