June 9, 2009 • Mobile and Telecoms

SOUTH Africa’s Cell C said it was confident of achieving growth this year.
The third biggest mobile network services provider in the country said it will thus expand its coverage in anticipation of an increased customer base.
“The potential for growth remains strong and we will focus our efforts in
2009 to ensure Cell C offers simple, innovative, value-for-money products and improved customer service,” newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Lars Reichelt said.
“Cell C will aggressively expand its network coverage and manage anticipated growth in usage. We will also further improve the operational and financial performance of the company.”
Cell C is the smallest player in the industry (Vodacom and MTN are the other network providers.) In 2008, the company generated revenue for the year of R8.6 billion, an increase of 14 percent from the 2007.
The company has 6.4 million subscribers.
