The Bizspark programme will see a joint implementation between Microsoft and a selection of Tunisia’s Government Ministries, including the Ministry of Communication Technologies, Energy and Small and Medium Enterprises, Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The project will also be supported by the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) and the Arab Tunisian Bank.
The initiative follows a meeting between Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer and Tunisia’s president, Ben Ali in 2007. Says Microsoft Vice President, Walid Abu-Hadhba: “An unprecedented and unique governmental support to anchor economic culture as well as the financing of high added value projects, and the attraction of young Tunisians to ICT professions, are the main assets which have qualified Tunisia , to benefit from the “BizSpark” program.”
The goal of the Bizspark project is to afford low cost access to technology to the Tunisian people, with a specific focus on entrepreneurial enterprises and startups.
