Institute plans African science education network

March 17, 2009 • People

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), a Cape Town, South Africa based organization dedicated to the development of the sciences on the African continent, is planning to create a pan-African network of teaching institutions.

Aptly named “The Next Einstein Initiative (NEI)”, the institute is in the process of setting up post-graduate teaching centers, with the aim to identify people on the continent with real talent and aptitude for mathematical sciences.

Ultimately the goal of the institute is to create a culture of innovation and scientific development, by providing these selected individuals with the scientific, financial and entrepreneurial skills, that would enable them to create profitable enterprises.

The institute is currently looking for a Director to drive the project. More information on the role and the initiative can be found at www.aims.ac.za.
